The Master of Science in Aquatic Ecology is a 120-credit advanced program focused on understanding aquatic ecosystems and better management of water resources. The curriculum combines marine ecology, aquatic microbiology, and environmental policies, guiding students through advanced topics including simulation modeling and field-based research. The second year emphasizes a research project, culminating in a written thesis associated with the Marine Science Centre at Linnaeus University.
Graduates from the program are prepared for careers as researchers, educators, decision makers, and consultants in aquatic ecology and sustainable environmental strategies. They acquire the skills to understand and manage aquatic systems, contributing valuable insights into water resource management and ecological preservation.
In Kalmar centre, right next to the sea, you will find the university’s facilities that were inaugurated in August 2021. In Kalmar, everything is nearby, and you can take your bicycle to the university regardless of where you live in the city. New students have housing guarantee, meaning that you are entitled to student accommodation within two months. This has contributed to Kalmar being appointed Student City of the Year 2023 by the Swedish National Union of Students. Kalmar has a population of about 70,000 and is known for its excellent living environment for students. The city actively creates opportunities for students to stay in Kalmar to work after their studies, and it has a strong trade and industry focus, particularly in green energy, e-commerce, and eHealth. Additionally, Kalmar boasts cultural heritage, beaches, concerts, and easy access to the island of Öland.
